Detroit Chocolate Shop to Create World’s Longest Box of Chocolate

Bon Bon Bon, a Detroit-based chocolatier, is busy putting together what they believe will be “the world’s longest box of chocolates.” When completed, the 313-foot box will include about 2,600 pieces of chocolate.

“We liked the idea of the challenge of putting together the world’s longest box of chocolate,” says Lauren Larson, a spokeswoman for Bon Bon Bon. “Bon Bon Bon has really amazingly packaged products, and we wanted a really unique way to show that off and provide the general public with a fun event.”

The assorted pieces of Bon Bon Bon chocolate will be compiled together in separate sections to create the large box, which will be 3 inches wide and 313 feet long when complete; longer than the Renaissance Center, where the event will be held. Larson says guests at the event will be able to eat as many pieces of chocolate from the display as they’d like.

The current record for the longest box of chocolates was produced in April 2008 by Thorntons and Russell Beck Studios in England and was 16 feet 6 inches long, and 11 feet 2 inches wide, according to the Guinness World Records. Larson says Bon Bon Bon is not working with Guinness to authenticate the new record.

Tickets for the Oct. 14 event, which is open to the public, are $20 and include a cocktail and a donation to the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy, an organization that is responsible for the improvement, operation, and maintenance of the Detroit River Walk and associated areas.

“We like to partner with organizations that the general public can appreciate,” Larson says. “We really appreciate what they’re doing in bettering the RiverWalk and other public areas in the city.”

In April, Bon Bon Bon opened a 400-square-foot showroom in the Chrysler House in downtown Detroit. The chocolatier, known for its inventive flavors, also has a temporary showroom in Ann Arbor and a “manufactory” in Hamtramck. Bon Bon Bon is a 2015 food finalist in the Martha Stewart American Made competition.
