Hello! My name is Emma Klug, and I’m a metro Detroit-based writer and editor. I graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in multimedia journalism (concentration in magazine writing and editing) and a fashion business minor. Since then, I’ve moved back to my hometown and, after working an editorial internship and a business-to-business journalism position, I am now an associate editor at Hour Detroit magazine.
My writing portfolio includes profiles on small business owners, columns about art exhibits, long reads on health, and Q&A’s with fashion industry insiders. I’ve also had to the chance to dabble in social media content creation, styling and pulling product for shoots, photographing events, managing interns, and shooting video. My work has been published in Snips magazine, Flexible Packaging magazine, DBusiness magazine, Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Talks, D’Office Threads magazine, my own blog, The Style Note, and more.
When I’m not writing, editing, and planning stories, I’m probably failing to get up early and workout before going to the office; binge-watching Monday Night Raw, The Bachelor/ette, or The Real Housewives of (fill in the blank) ; or obsessing over designer clothing I can’t afford.
I believe my professional experiences and school work have provided me with skills that are useful for a career within the realm of lifestyle journalism, and I enjoy contributing to a creative work environment.
